TRAINING. Working with People considered to have Severe Disabilities 

TARGET AUDIENCE: Direct care staff (residential, Community Habilitation Providers, Respite care providers, nursing home staff, Mental Health staff, etc.), Administrative Staff in all support areas, and more.

STRUCTURE AND CONTENT: This training will teach direct care staff and other support staff to realize the potential of people thought to have a severe disability, recognize each persons gift, and create a structure that allows everyone around that person to recognize the gift. The learner will be able to:

  • identify the characteristics of a person labeled "severely disabled".

  • realize the potential of a person thought to have a severe disability.

  • recognize each persons gift.

  • create structures that allow others to recognize that persons gift.

  • share that persons gift with the larger community.

INSTRUCTIONAL FORMAT: Trainer Facilitated

INSTRUCTIONAL MODES: Dialogue/discussion with interactive exercises (overhead graphics, follow- long materials, interactive handouts)

Includes competency test and evaluation of training/workshop

LENGTH: (Two variations) Three (3) hour workshop or One day comprehensive training
